Lawns have provided many things for homeowners over the years, from a play area for children to a beautiful viewing area.  Customers have viewed a lawn as a weekly chore to a peaceful sanctuary.  Although most homeowners take the lawn for granted, there are very beneficial reasons to keep your lawn maintained and in its best shape.

A lawn naturally provides many positive factors for the ecosystem.  One front lawn has the cooling effect of about 9 tons of air-conditioning.  The Turfgrass in the US traps approxamently 12 tons of dirt and dust released annually.  2500 square feet of healthy turf can take in enough carbon dioxide and other unusable gases to release enough oxygen usable for a family of four.

A healthy lawn can also be a benefit to a homeowner financially.  A Gallup Survey found the majority (62%) of people believe the recover of investment on lawns and landscapes is 100-200%.

Strong lawns provide dense root systems.  A dense root system provides soil stabilization and less erosion.  Erosion control prevents runoff into water systems.  A beautiful healthy lawn and landscape is said to create positive moods and help people recover from illnesses quicker.

Some ways Bennett Landscape can improve your lawn’s health so you can receive better benefits are listed below.

  • Proper mowing, edging and blowing.
  • Detaching to remove organic matter to allow the lawn to grow stronger.
  • Scalp the lawn to remove the dormant portion of the lawn before the growing season to promote growth.
  • Aerate lawns to reduce soil compaction and increase the oxygen and nutrient flow to the root system.  This is to be done on a yearly basis.
  • Proper weed control.  Pre-emergent and Post-emergent care.
  • Proper fertilization.  Over fertilization can be just as harmful if not worse than no fertilization at all
  • Grub and Mole extraction.  Some grubs eat on the root system which damage the turf.  Moles feed on grubs and in the process of finding their prey, they damage the root system.
  • Preventive and Treatment for fungus and disease in the lawn.  Without proper care once a lawn has a disease, it can cause permanent damage to the lawn.
  • Fire Ant Control.  Any size of pest can cause damage to the lawn.
  • Aeration and Overseeding for cool season lawns.  Fescue’s natural characteristic is to lose at least 25% of its blades each year.  Without overseeding and replacing that turf, the lawn will continue to decline and become thin and unhealthy.
  • Topdressing for even terrain.  By applying a thin layer of river sand, the lawn is smoothed.  A smoother lawn allows for more even mowing and being able to mow the lawn at the correct height.
